Nestled among the food restos in Ayala Triangle Gardens; we were able to try this little gem of a place out.
Kanin Club, Ayala Triangle Gradens |
With it's nipa hut exterior; the Filipino vibe was certainly alive in this place. The multi-colored panels on the windows were also a nice touch.
At 7pm on a weekday, this placed was packed. It took awhile for us to be seated. Wooden walls, tables & chairs was the ongoing theme of the restaurant.
The name bothered me a bit. It was my thought all along that the food they serve were all rice toppings; but further research & recommendations from friends put my mind at ease.
Crispy Liempo (Php 142) |
This dish although highly recommended came with a warning; it's sinfully addicting with a huge helping of cholesterol. It came with 3 dipping sauces but being traditionalists, we stuck with the vinegar. These deep fried "bacon strips" were YUM! FS Recommendation? Forget your diet and eat while hot. Damn the consequences... :9
Aligue Rice (Php 149) |
This yellow bowl of rice with chopped greens & topped with aligue is another winner. As you mix in the aligue, you get your first whiff of foodgasm ahead. Serving is good for 2-3 people but among the 2 of us, we had no trouble finishing this up...and quickly. That's 2 for Kanin Club. :P
Tapa (Php 187) |
We ordered something simple in contrast to the Aligue Rice. The beef was tender and serving was good for 2-3 people. FS verdict? This was okay. Don't forget to dip in the vinegar.
Spicy Tahong (Php 216) |
Wanted something spicy to kick up the flavor level; they weren't kidding with the spices. Whooa.. this was H-O-T. Tried eating this with the Aligue rice; definitely a bad idea. The aligue with the curry was not a good combination. To be fair, we ordered plain rice and was rewarded with the tasty curry treat. What we ♥♥♥ about this dish is that all the shells had tahong inside plus they serve it open-faced to save you the trouble of opening it yourself. Cool right? :p
We went home with tummies full and happy faces. This was definitely a Good Eat.
FS Suggestion: Just don't order for take out. We made the mistake of doing so since they were packed to the rafters on our 2nd visit. The quality of food went down the drain.
Are we coming back? Yup yup. Can't wait.
