REVISITED REVIEW: J.Co Donuts and Coffee, Greenbelt 3 Makati

This is a Revisited Review for J. Co Greenbelt.

To read our first review, click here.

We were on our way to a friend's house with a plan to bring a box of J.Co for them to try. But after going to 2 different branches (Greenbelt 3 & Megamall), we gave up. The lines were way too long which made me think that we were lucky enough last Feb 13, 2013; when the lines weren't ridiculously long yet.

J. Co, Greenbelt 3 Makati
Since I tasted the Alcapone on our first visit, I had a hankering for one that night. Hubby bought me a dozen (Php 350) which consisted of 10 Alcapones & 2 Don Mochino.

What caught me off guard was the servers had that bored look on their faces. When asking about the different flavors, they look at you with blank faces (actually more of the irita look) & proceed to rapidly spew out the donut description. >.<

Anyway, on to the donuts.
The Don Mochino had a mocha/ coffee-like filling inside. Hubby gave this an A-Okay in his book. The chocolate glaze on top was wet, and the heart shapes on the sides were a nice touch.

The Alcapones were better than the first visit. Now on my favorite donut list. ;)

The question is, are the J.Co donuts worth the long wait?

Honestly, if you want to try something new then by all means. In the meantime, we'll just come back when the lines go back to normal.

Here's to hoping that the service would be WAY better by then .

Chinese New Year 2013 at Romulo Cafe, Jupiter Street Makati

Eating out with friends is always a good thing. The foodie in me knew that GOOD FOOD = A GOOD TIME. Had to make sure that the place would be comfy, fun & yum.

This was the first dinner with Hubby's barkada since.... I can't remember.
Yup, it's been that long. ;)

The place to catch up was at Romulo Cafe, Jupiter Street.

Romulo Cafe, Jupiter Street
We've been here before (To read about our previous review, click here & here) and our favorite food from their menu never disappoints. Dinner was set at 7:30pm. The server guided us to their "basement" dining area. Cool! ;)

Cheese and Vigan Longganisa Dumplings (Php 145)
First up, with V's recommendation, we got 2 of this. This was crunchy but was not able to taste any of the cheese. FS Verdict? Okay lang.

Crispy Squid Heads (Php 200)

With J's recommendation, we had 2 of this. The chili-honey-garlic glaze was yum. The crunchiness was also a win for me. FS Verdict? Liked this better than the longganisa dish.

Flying Tilapia (Php 350)
Not really a fan of fish that's been butterfly-ed like this. The tilapia meat always seems lesser and sure enough, this was not enough for the table. FS Verdict? Nothing special. Even the sauces were quite forgettable.

Dinner Stop at Pepper Lunch Express, Glorietta 4 Makati

We found ourselves stuck at Glorietta 4 Food Court on a Friday night.

Didn't want to go far so we looked around Glorietta 4 Food Court and chose this.

Check out the long line
Hubby finished ordering just in time; pretty soon the dinner rush began. Business was booming.

Beef Pepper Rice (Php 145)
Served on a sizzling plate and enclosed in a paper shield guard, the sight was enough to whet anyone's appetite. FS Advice? Turn over the beef pieces immediately or it may get overcooked.

Mix it all together...

Valentines Date at Heaven and Eggs, Glorietta 4, Makati

As the clock struck 12:30am of February 14, 2013, we found ourselves walking along Greenbelt. We always believed in doing things different and so to make it more special, we had our first Vday Meal, crepes from Cafe Breton.

Yup, we started with desserts! ;) Blueberries & Cream for Hubby; La Pinay for me. Definitely a good start for our Valentines celebration.

Morning came and we had this as our mid-morning snack courtesy of Potato Corner. We munched on sticks of Ranch O' Cheddar. Yum!

Fast forward to dinner and we wanted to go back to something familiar, quiet and simple. Didn't want to go far so we set our sights to restaurants in Glorietta or Greenbelt.  Settled on H & E (aka Heaven & Eggs).

The swings were gone :( and the home-y feel was replaced with metallic hues and yellow couches.

At least their menu still had the whimsical vibe.

Korean Fusion at Cafe Monaco, Greenhills San Juan

Greenhills cravings brought us to Cafe Monaco

Cafe Monaco, Greenhills

Had a chance to eat at their Quezon City branch. Wanted to see if the food was as good here as well.

Booth
What I like about Cafe Monaco is they cook the food as you order. They serve it fresh and hot, which is always a good thing.

While you wait, they serve you these appetizers.

Gyu Nikuyakidon (Php 150)
This sliced beef dish was tender & flavorful. Topped with sesame seeds, this is one of my go-to dish.

BI Review: Marks & Spencer Wine Tasting, Greenbelt 5 Makati

Thursday was Wine Day.

We were running a bit late to Marks & Spencer's Wine Tasting at Greenbelt last February 7, 2013.

Marks & Spencer, Greenbelt 5
By the time we got there, everyone was already buzzed; not only from the alcohol but from the lecture given by the guest speaker Chie Gatchalian. She gave an intro to wines and how each one would pair with food.

Chie Gatchalian
See the wine glasses? That's how many types of wines they had us taste. Marks & Spencer made sure that no glass was left empty. One thing I noticed was there were no spit buckets. It was a "finish your drink" type of tasting.  Hence the presence of the "red-faced" people. ;)

Here are some of the wines they offered for sampling. Got to try out one of their Sparkling Wine. Not really a wine drinker, so I just took one small sip. At first sip, you can taste the bubbly freshness. Tingles the tongue and throat.

Midnight Wings at B.Wings Glorietta 3 Park, Makati

For our second visit to the Food Truck Stop at Glorietta 3, we knew that we couldn't leave without trying one of the wares displayed.

Hubby was hankering for chicken wings. Luckily, just a few steps from Mio Gelato was this kiosk.

B.Wings at Glorietta 3 Park

First thing that caught my eye was one of their flavors; Barak o Pakpak. Filipino humor at its finest! :p

Since this was our first time to try B.Wings, we had lots of questions regarding the flavors.  They deep-fry your chicken as you order; which is always a good thing.

We ended up with their bestsellers. After waiting 5-7 minutes, you're all set. You can mix two flavors for an order of 10 wings (which was actually 5 wings cut in half).  Our total for the night was Php 200.

Packed for takeout, we drove home and got ready to dig in.

Sweet Afters at Mio Gelati, Glorietta 3 Park Makati

Fresh from the ongoing sale at Duty Free Philippines, we decided to check out the new food truck stop at Glorietta 3 Park last Friday.

We were looking for dessert (to wash out the bad experience we had for dinner) and saw this cute pink truck parked by the end.

Mio Gelati, Glorietta 3 Park
Pink palang, sold na! Haha. This was too girly to pass up.

Flavors
They categorize their flavors into 3 groups; regular, premium and alcoholic. Scoops price depends on the category they're in.

We were there for the Ferrero (see the 2nd picture) which sadly was sold out. :( Settled for Espresso Chips & Banofee instead. Our total for the night was Php 160 (one regular + one premium).

A Spanish Afternoon at Alba, Polaris Street, Makati

Thursday's lunch brought us to Alba at Polaris Street.

Alba, Polaris Street Makati

Don't let the facade fool you; it's way roomier and spacious inside.

Told you ;)

With the red tablecloths, wine glasses and red napkins; the place echoed of fine dining and elegance.

Huge paintings adorned the walls as well as lantern-type light fixtures. At one spot, they made use of a wine rack as decor. How quaint. They also had a small area for their deli, cakes and other sugary treats.

We were there for their lunch buffet (Php 650/head).

This was what their setup looked like. On the left was the appetizers & main dishes. Right next to the bar was their desserts selections.
