3 for 3 at TRES, SM The Block

A last-minute lunch run to SM The Block resulted to us going back to our regular Filipino/ Spanish haunt, Tres.

TRES at SM The Block Ground Floor

If you've heard of Abe & Recipes, their dishes are basically the same with Tres but the taste... is another matter.  You should not count this one out.

Crispy Pata (Php 393)
First up, no Filipino meal is complete without Crispy Pata.  TRES manages to have the skin ("balat") crispy with the meat still tender & juicy. But you do have to remind your server to make it as "malutong" as possible and to have it sliced already. The order comes with kamote chips on the side.

Lamb Adobo (Php 353)
Next up, is Lamb Adobo. The sauce alone is enough to tickle your taste buds and make you come back for more.  Full of flavor, you can taste the spices used for the adobo. The lamb was tender & savory.  This dish should definitely be eaten with rice to appreciate.

Gising Gising (Php 133)
To mix things up, we decided to order this veggie dish in coconut milk (gata). For a name like this one (roughly translated as "wake up, wake up") this was not spicy or tasty enough to wake up any of my taste buds. A somewhat ordinary dish.

Crispy Ginataang Hito (Php 273)
Now don't let its appearance fool you, this is one of the dishes we keep coming back for.  On our first visit, we decided to be adventurous and try out the hito instead of the usual tilapia, and good thing too.  Served with kamote chips, it's crispy on the outside & soft on the inside. Goes well with the sauce. You might think that it's just fried fish, but it's the simplicity of the dish that warrants it a special mention on this blog. TRES was able to come up with a dish that's simple yet so satisfying.

We also ordered Beef Salpicao (Php 263), an appetizer must-try. With enough serving to pass as a main course, the meat is consistently cooked to perfection, tender & flavorful every time. Two thumbs up for this one. We tried out the Sinigang na Spareribs (Php 243) which was not really that good, the soup was too thick and not "maasim" enough and Crispy Kare Kare (Php 313). The only thing that struck me the most about this dish is that the sauce is served separately, you'll have to pour it over the veggies & meat). For a refreshing beverage, try their Buko Lychee. Served in a tall glass, it's the perfect drink to complete your meal.
