To celebrate Mother's Day last Sunday (May 8, 2011), for lunch we ate at Banana Leaf Asian Cafe at SM The Block. Instead of the usual plates, you will be eating on banana leaves.

What's unique about this restaurant is that they serve your rice in a high "palayok-like" container.
To whet our appetite, we ordered our tried & tested finger food, Roti Canai. It basically looks like toasted "puffy bread". You eat this with your fingers & dip it in curry sauce which you have to order separately. We prefer the sauce from the Singapore Clams (pix below) which has more kick.

One of the main dish that we had was the Tilapia Fillet with Malayan Cream Sauce. You'd think that this dish would be flavorful because of its appearance, but it's just so-so. The fish was soft but the sauce only had a mild taste to it, almost bordering to being bland already. Nothing out of the ordinary.

To spice things up, we ordered our favorite Stir Fried Clams in Singaporean Chili Sauce. Yummy! We recommend you dipping the Roti here. Although the order we got were mostly shells only, those clams that we got to taste were flavorful, no sandy aftertaste.

We also had the Sizzling Black Pepper Beef. This dish was tasty but needed more sauce. The beef was also a bit tough to chew. It would've been better if less onions were used.

Another dish we had was their Chicken Curry. Ho-hum. Just an ordinary curry dish, nothing special. But at least the potatoes were soft.

And now for our last dish, we ordered the Pad Thai Banana Leaf Style. This was just okay, although a bit dry. You just need to mix it well before eating.
