With new one-branch restaurants cropping up all over the metro, it seemed fitting that our next food trip would be at one of them. Your Local was lucky enough to be chosen for tonight's dinner out with our friend Krystle. ;)
With no other signage except for this one, we actually had a hard time looking for this place. From the outside, it didn't look like anything much. Thoughts of "Ito na yun?" ("This is it?!") were running through our minds.
But I soon forgot all about those when I saw this; subway white tiles with black iron doors. Loved the unassuming yet cool vibe.
It was a good thing that we made reservations. They kept the "bones" of the place (you can still see that this was once an industrial space) and just ingrained metal light fixtures to continue with the theme.
Here's a view of their open kitchen. You can opt to sit in the bar where you'll see them prepare your food first hand. We each chose a main dish to try and while we waited, I thought it would be fitting to try one appetizer as well. And with a name like that, how could it go wrong?
Feel Good Chicken (Php 295) |
But it did. These 3 pieces of sad looking chicken wings did not make us "Feel Good" rather, it made us feel bad. Even the fancy description (prawn paste with maple cream on the side) did not make up for the lack of flavor. Tasted very ordinary.
Truffle Cream Pasta (Php 570) |
This at least upped the ante a bit. The pasta noodles were cooked al dente and as promised, they doused this with truffle oil. The shitake mushrooms & thin strips of hijiki were the perfect components to balance the creaminess of the dish. Okay, we instantly fell in love with this dish all because of the truffle oil coma that ensued. ;9
Torched Salmon Donburi (Php 440) |
Been seeing rave reviews about this dish and after tasting it for ourselves, we couldn't agree more. The salmon, which is cooked medium well, literally melts in your mouth. The ebiko & menatiko with their egg-y construct helped in rounding up the dish while the shaved roasted corn gave the much needed crunch to the dish. Oh and did I tell you about the shitake black rice? Absolutely yum! This hands down was the crowd favorite.
Lamb Rendang (Php 490) |
Another one of their bestselling dish although this left a much different taste in our mouths. It wasn't bad, it was more of too different, too much trying to instill new flavors which did not work really well together. The sous vide organic egg though was a sight to behold.
Food-Stars Verdict? Amidst a few of the disappointing dishes, Your Local was able to give us new favorites that warrant another visit.
