Local Flavors with a Twist at Locavore, Kapitolyo Pasig City, Philippines

Impromptu food plans with friends are the best ones!
For this particular lunch, Ceej & Francia were game for a new place to try out. We decided on Locavore, which coincidentally was right in their neighborhood. ;)

We suggest you come early since parking slots nearest to the restaurant are quite limited. With a name like this plus a huge rooster as their logo, it comes as no surprise that this was going to be a Filipino feast afternoon.

To get it out of the way, I'm disclosing the fact that yes; we had rice with our meal.

And here's our photo of it......

Steamed Garlic White Rice (Php 70./cup)
No judgments please... hahaha. This was actually 4 cups of rice served in one big platter.

Pusit Ala Pobre (Php 220)

We've started to love squid in olive oil and this was the closest thing to that. Locavore's version had their squid swimming in squid ink and topped off with garlic bits & spring onions. Food-Stars Verdict? Quite tasty & a nice start to our meal.

Ginataang Kaldereta (Php 570)

This tomato-sauced dish was actually my least favorite. The beef short ribs were cooked 'til tender though. Present were all the components that makes this Filipino dish a meal all by itself; Sauteed French Beans, Stewed Tomatoes, Marble Potato, Cheese, Gata, Garlic & Shallot Confit. Tasting ordinary with a hefty price tag to boot made this a clear miss for me.

Lechon & Oyster Sisig (Php 400)

Okay you had us at Lechon! If you're going to go down that road, might as well go all out right? Crunchy bits of deep fried pork & oysters with their creamy sauce served in a hot skillet. Food-Stars Verdict? Even with the missing lechon bits, the oysters were tasty enough to make us overlook that sad fact.

Mac's Boneless Fried Chicken (Php 240)
Crunchy on the outside & tender on the inside, Mac had this dish down pat. The glaze had just the right amount of sweetness that worked well with the boneless chicken even without the dipping sauce.

Overall, it was an afternoon of catching up over plates of note-worthy dishes worth coming back for! ;9
