Morning Eats at Early Bird Breakfast Club, Taguig Philippines

One problem that seems to crop up after every run is where to eat. At the wee hours of the morning, choices are limited to fast food places which is a bit hard to swallow (pardon the pun) especially when you've just managed to sweat off the pounds a couple of hours before.

It's common knowledge that post-workout meals are just as important as the sleep & exercise you need before a run. Whether you've ran a 5k or a full marathon, consuming a healthy & protein-filled meal is the way to muscle recovery.

Early Bird Breakfast Club seemed a good choice for this morning mainly because of two things: (1) Accessibility since the run was in Makati, we didn't need to travel that far and (2) A new place to try out is always a go in my book.

Adobo Sunrise (Php 325)
This is garlic fried rice topped with thinly sliced scrambled eggs & adobo flakes. I wasn't able to taste this but seeing how Joseph kept playing with it instead of eating it said a lot.

The Early Bird Cuban (Php 365)
Even though the only exercise I had the whole morning was the walk from the parking lot to the finish line, that did not stop me from ordering the dish with hella fixins. This is toasted ciabatta cut in half with roast pork, ham, cheddar cheese and pickles drizzled with mojo mayo & mustard. This also comes with grilled corn, french fries and an extra serving of the mojo mayo. Food-Stars Verdict? There was really a lot going on with this dish so I'll rate it piece by piece. The mustard in the sandwich overpowered the flavors within the bread. Spreading the extra mojo mayo really helped a lot, flavor-wise. The french fries & grilled corn were a nice addition but I was getting the feeling that instead of getting awed by the flavors, this dish overwhelmed me by giving me a lot of just okay pieces.

Sausage Skillet (Php 275)
It took awhile but Hubby settled on this one. Sliced Spanish chorizo, English banger, hashed potatoes & caramelized onions all served in a hot plate. Food-Stars Verdict? While I had half of my Cuban sandwich & grilled corn packed to go, Spencer polished this off in record time with a smile on his face. After having a bite myself, I knew why ;) With all those different kinds of cured meats, you would imagine that it would be salty but the sweetness from the caramelized onions and the starch from the potatoes balanced it out perfectly.

Our post-workout meal by Early Bird Breakfast Club was more of a miss. Getting 1 out of 3 dishes right is kinda below average.
