The Old & The New at Kimpo Teahouse, Banawe QC

Coming from the Warehouse Sale, we were all tired and hungry. Wanted to eat somewhere familiar and casual, nothing fussy. We drove to Han Pao but what welcomed us instead was something bigger and brighter.

Kim Po Teahouse, Banawe St Quezon City
The spacious parking was a cause for celebration. No more having to park at other nearby restaurants and to quickly run inside Han Pao, hoping that the guard did not see. Haha. But seriously, thumbs up for this.

Kimpo Teahouse was spacious, bright and really inviting. The interiors were in better shape, no more of the old & dusty vibe you get in Han Pao. Here , the light fixtures themselves were a marvel to look at, simple yet elegant-looking. The stone walls too were cool. I'm thinking the remodeling and reconstruction was a good move.

Now let's see if the food tastes even better.

Siomai
Couldn't wait for our  main courses, we decided to nibble on some dim sum. Kimpo's siomai was just alright. It didn't fall into pieces when you bite into it which is always a good sign. It was a bit small and the taste was nothing special.

Raddish Cake
Their Raddish cake on the other hand was divine. It was toasted on the outside and melt-in-mouth softness on the inside, just the way we like it. I polished off 2 pcs of this by myself. And the accompanying hot sauce was just right. I didn't even notice that there was no XO sauce. Would definitely order this again.

Fried Rice
We ordered Kimpo's Fried Rice hoping that this was still the same as before. Verdict? It was even better than I remembered. The serving was good for 2-3 people. It was a plate of vibrant colors, ham, peas, eggs and shrimps, a feast not only for the eyes but for the tummy as well.  And for Ph85 only, this should definitely be in anybody's order list.

Shrimp Dumplings
The taste was just how we remembered it. As you bite into the crispy wrapper, the crunchiness echoes in the mouth. The hot, delicious shrimp inside will tickle you taste buds. Recommendation? Eat this with the sweet sauce. Ask for lots of it.

Crispy Fried Chicken

Word of caution: Don't try to decipher what chicken parts were used in this dish. Just close your eyes and languor in the crispy chicken taste that this brings. Serving is good enough for 3-4 people, and you can never go wrong with chicken. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, cooked just right.

Other people in the table ordered the following dishes:

Soy Chicken
Beef Brisket Rice

One complaint though, the a/c needs tuning. We were sweating bullets even before the main courses arrived.

All in all a great night of fun, food and laughs.
