When the Match Ended at Morning to Midnight (M2M), New World Renaissance Hotel Makati

Amidst the hullabaloo of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight, the family decided to eat Sunday lunch at one of the restaurants in New World Hotel.

M2M, New World Hotel
We have been here a couple of times already. With this recent visit, we decided it was time to blog about it.

There was ample seating room. You can choose from the regular table & chair setting or this semi-enclosed booth-type setting.

Bread Section
The light tan on brown motif of the counter top was cool to the eyes. The wooden slabs gave a home-y feel to it. Breads of different kinds were available for choosing. I did not really want bread for lunch so I just let my eyes & nose take their fill instead. :)

Salad Bar
There were actually 2 salad sections in this place. With the huge wooden bowls & big glass jars, it seemed to me that this was a salad set for GIANTS! :) But kidding aside, all ingredients looked fresh and this section in particular was kept clean & organized. Couldn't say the same for the other one though, the servers forgot to check the bowls. There were a couple of leftover soggy lettuce & drops of dressing. Tsk tsk.

The Ready-to-Eat Section
All hotel buffets have this section where they have on display dishes that are already cooked & ready to eat. The only dish that struck our fancy was lechon.  Upon suggestion by the one manning this section, we had it heated. Well, what came back was a huge disappointment. The lechon meat was tough and the skin was soft instead of crunchy. PASS!
Noodles & Teppan Section
Another section showcased noodles dishes + teppan. This was a choose-whatever-you-want on your noodle dish. I'm not really a fan of noodles so I opted to try their Teppan instead. Went for their Beef Teppan. Presentation-wise? The dish looked limp and bland. The beef cubes looked unappetizing and plain while the veggies & onion did not help the dish at all. The taste? No flavor or spice whatsoever. Overall, it was boring & unpleasant to eat.

Sushi
Hubby couldn't wait to have the California Maki. Surprised to see them stacked side by side, miles high! This was the first that I've seen makis this tall; and what's more surprising was the server told us that we could already eat them as is. Really? Lazy much? We had ours sliced into regular-sized ones. And the sad thing was we shouldn't have bothered. Taste-wise? This was a definite thumbs down.

Tempura
No buffet is complete without tempura. With a presentation like this, who could resist? Well we took the plunge and came out on the losing end. Even after having them fried again, the tempura was neither crunchy nor tasty. The breading did nothing to help the dish. This was limp and sorely lacked flavor. Hay...

Seafood
Baked oysters were M2M saving grace. Instead of regular cheese, they used mozzarella... and that made all the difference. The oysters were baked perfectly.  Add the sticky cheese + garlic bits on top... smack-tastic! :) It's no surprise that we had 2 plates of this.

Open....
Sesame!!
The only other thing that I enjoyed this Sunday lunch was the dessert, especially this one. I curiously picked up one of these quaint little jars of Mango Panna cotta. After figuring out how to open the lock, I must say it was definitely worth it. The mango puree on top was sweet and sticky, a perfect combination to the white gelatinous bottom layer. This was truly a sweet ending! :)

While everyone was sipping their cup of coffee, lo and behold we hear the news....Pacman lost to Bradley. Sharing the same sentiment that Pacman got robbed of his belt, I too felt robbed that afternoon. For 2k a pop, I was expecting yummy & exciting food yet M2M served mediocre below-average dishes. Sigh..
