Part Two of our Mother's Day celebration takes us to Quezon City. This time, it was my mom's turn.
Moomba, Quezon City
Door
The large wooden doors had a jungle/ safari vibe. That's no surprise since their specialty was Ostrich.
Interior
In line with the jungle fever motif, the tables were brown and the chairs were green. The big cushions on the couches were an added plus, made the seats more comfortable.
Music Space
In the middle of the restaurant was a space especially for live performers. That night, we were serenaded by a soloist who played several oldies but goodies; much to my mom's delight! :)

Moomba tries to add a touch of class & sophistication to the safari theme. A difficult endeavor yet they seemed to be able to deliver.
Carrot & Pumpkin Soup (Ph 85)
It was raining pretty hard outside thus a soup as a starter seemed perfect. My favorite Pumpkin Soup is Little Asia's version but Mooba's didn't come far behind. The carrots added texture & sweetness. Thick & with croutons on top, this was a delight with every spoonful.
Club House Sandwich (Ph 185)
While waiting for the latecomers (my sister & brother), we ordered this to nibble on. It was jam packed with filling (chicken, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce, cucumber & scrambled eggs). Sadly, that did nothing to the taste. It was a bit bland. Only redeeming quality was that the potato chips on the side were good.
Calamares (Ph 295)
Calamares has been one of our staple orders at any restaurant. Moomba's version? So-so. Was not the best but was not the worst. The breading was crunchy and serving was good for 2-3 people.
Fettuccine Alfredo
Mom was in the mood for pasta so we ordered one of this. Creamy & full of sauce but did not offer anything special. Quite forgettable in my opinion.
Meat Lovers Pizza (Php 325)
Note to self: Never order food that's not the restaurant's specialty. Moomba's pizza (at least this particular one), lacked..... a lot. I know that's harsh but we are in the business of blogging food as it is. Presentation-wise, it looked like one of those you order from stalls in malls. The taste? Too rustic in my opinion. Verdict? A definite pass.
On to the big hitters.
Ostrich Ala Pobre (Php 495)
The whole night was saved by this dish. The minced ostrich atop a bed of mashed potatoes & veggies was divine. Of course, add the delicately placed whole garlic & voila... this was definitely the hit of the night. I know ostrich may be squeamish but for first timers, this is a good place to start.
Sizzling Ostrich (Php 395)
This was Moomba's take on the classic sisig. Instead of the usual pork, they used slivers of ostrich meat tossed with bell peppers, carrots & onions. Verdict? The sauce overpowered the ostrich meat. The veggies tasted better than the main attraction.
Lastly, we had their Beef Salpicao (Php 295). The meat was tender & juicy. A definite YUM in my book.
In conclusion, Moomba had its ups & downs.
Would we come back? Definitely. We'll just be ordering more ostrich next time.
