Catching Up at Mango Tree, Bonifacio High Street Central Taguig

December; the month of holiday cheer, gift giving and of course... eating! :9

It's always nice to meet and catch up with friends; tonight was no exception.

Mango Tree. Bonifacio High Street Central
Hmmmm... with a tagline like that, expectations were definitely through the roof.

Let's see how they fare.

With the high ceiling & long curtains adorning the windows, Mango Tree managed to convey a touch of class and elegance.

With the comfy chairs and over sized couches, this was definitely going to be a night of nonstop chikahan.

Loved how the yellow table napkin reminded me of mango slices. The twine on the end completed the entire look.

Since this was our first time here, we left the ordering to I and F.

Yum Pla Duk Fu (Php 380)

According to their menu, this was crispy catfish flakes with mango salad. Definitely something new. First Impression? As you cut into it, you can hear the ccrunch sound but that was about it. The mango salad on the side was sour on the tongue. And there was no catfish in sight.  FS verdict? Not a fan. Next.

Tom Yum Goong (Php 450)
Serving is good for 2-3 people. Mango Tree's version was certainly unforgettable... but not in a good way. The sourness overwhelmed the whole soup; couldn't taste any other flavor.

Gai Hor Bai Toey (Php 380)
The 3rd dish was Pandan Chicken with sweet tamarind sauce on the side. The chicken was tender and cooked okay. I was expecting a strong pandan flavor but alas, it didn't have that. The sauce was okay but did not really help in the taste department. FS Verdict? So-so.

Pad Thai Jay (Php 350)
We've been Pad Thai fans ever since we had one at Muang Thai. Couldn't wait to try this version. Presentation-wise? Definitely something different. Instead of the usual flat noodles nestling on a plate, Mango Tree got creative and covered their noodles in a "shell". This was a nice touch. Taste-wise? A bit average.

Gaeng Phed Nua (Php 550)

No Thai meal is complete without curry. Was hoping that this would be the highlight of the night. Served in a golden pot, the aroma soon filled the table. FS verdict? It was too mild. Was waiting for the burst of flavors (coconut, cream & chilies) but was sorely disappointed. FS Recommendation? Eat this with rice.

Wasn't able to get the names of the following dishes below. Will update the post once I have more info. :)

Gha Pad Gra Pow (Php 400)
T requested the chilies off this dish. FS Verdict? Tasted a bit bland; no flavor whatsoever. Disappointing. Quite forgettable actually.

Tod Mun Goong (Php 380)
Looked like shrimp cakes, tasted like shrimp cakes. Breaded and fried, this was crunchy. FS Recommendation? Load up on the sauce. One observation though, on the menu it comes with plum sauce but that night they served it with sweet chili sauce instead. An oversight maybe?

The meat was a bit tough to chew. Nothing special.

Thai Iced Tea with Lemon (Php 80)
Ordering this drink was my huge mistake of the night. Bleh. The mixture was terrible enough to make sure that I stay away from this drink FOREVER. Yup, it was that bad.

Thai Iced Tea (Php 80)
This was the highlight of my night. This milky concoction was simple divine. This drink alone warrants a second visit from us. Cheers! :)

So was their Thai Cuisine at its best? Nice try Mango Tree but no dice.
