RR: Kuya's at The Fort, Fort Bonifacio Taguig

As much as possible, we give restaurants second chances. So here's our Revisited Review for Kuya's.

For our first visit, click here.

As our usual, we made reservations. The person on the other line (Art) accepted our reservation and confirmed the details.

Kuya's at the Fort

We arrived by 8:10pm to a full house. Okay... so what happened to our reservation? What was the point of accepting reservations if you're not going to reserve the place for us? Tsk tsk. It seemed that this Second Chance visit was starting off badly.

Talking to the waiter led to nowhere. No one can tell me what happened to my reservation plus that the indoor section was reserved for the night. Yup, Art didn't even tell us that the non-smoking area was already full. Another misstep.

What was more frustrating? Someone (who later on turned to be the owner's son Jed) arrogantly kept on repeating this statement "Yes, you should've been informed but I'm not going to give you a place inside since there's a party. You can stay here outside instead."

Points for clarification.
Number One: Yes Jed, we should've been informed. Admitting that we should've been informed was a step in the right direction. But insisting that you can't do anything about it and saying that we should just deal with it? This was a huge step backwards.

Number Two: Next time, I suggest that you introduce yourself first. I was talking to your arrogant waiter when you suddenly butted in. Sorry, that's just bad manners. Plain and simple.

Was hoping for a relaxing night and to enjoy the evening with friends. But it seems that Kuya's always finds a way to make the night a bust.

If it wasn't for our friends who drove far just to join us for the evening, we would've walked out.

After several minutes of fixing table and chairs, we were finally able to sit down. I was in no mood to order and was planning to give this RR a huge thumbs down no matter what but Hubby (who was the cooler head that night) intervened saying that it wouldn't be fair. So against my better judgment, I tried to keep an open mind for their food.

Crispy Binagoongan (Php 290)
Serving was for 2-3 people. The saltiness of the bagoong worked well with the crispiness of the pork. Was surprised to find myself liking this dish. That's a first.

Gising Gising (Php 220)
Our greens for the night was this Gising Gising. It wasn't spicy and didn't have gata (coconut) in it. FS Verdict? This was a bit bland and dry. A definite pass.

Twice Cooked Adobo (Php 275)

Since we had their "bestselling" Kare Kare the last time, I was pretty hesitant to try another of their specialty dish. But Hubby insisted in fair play and ordered this to try out. FS Verdict? This was actually YUM! This practically flew off the table. Definitely the highlight of the evening.

Kalderetang Baka (PHp 360)
M requested for Kalderetang Baka. Served on a sizzling plate, it looked appetizing enough. Taste-wise? Nothing special. Just okay.

In between the Adobo and Kaldereta, Jed suddenly approached our table with a huge pizza on his hands. Apparently, this was their "apology" of sorts for the reservation and should've been informed issue. We gave him the same answer we gave his dad; we don't accept freebies or anything of that sort in exchange for a favorable review. So we had the pizza sent back to the kitchen.

Again, we post our actual dining experiences. We're not stingy in giving bad reviews in the same manner that we are generous with our compliments. We tell it as it is.

Food-Stars Verdict?
The food this time around was way better than the 1st visit.
But as for the service? Major turn off in every way imaginable.

Is it any surprise to say that we are not coming back?

SERVICE: = Food came out quick and hot.

TASTE: = The Twice Cooked Adobo & Crispy Binagoongan were the jewel of the lot.
