Jap-ed Up at Kimpura, Greenbelt 5

This particular Sunday was filled with Japanese treats. First, a lunch out at Omakase Ayala Triangle (with our usual fare of Maki, Teppan, Salad & Rice), then a dinner run at Greenbelt 5's Kimpura

Kimpura, Greenbelt 5

With tired soles (fresh from Fully Booked shopping spree), we plopped down on their comfy chairs.

Table Top
Mint green napkin adorned every plate. There was also a starter of dried fish (dilis) & veggies. Their table for 4 was a bit cramped, we had to resort to fast eating so that the dishes would fit.

Gyoza
Was surprised to taste the filling at first bite, they weren't stingy with that. The wrapper was soft & cooked just right. But the flavor was nothing special.

Super California Roll (Php 395)
For that price, I was expecting wow with every bite. Sorry Kimpura, but this couldn't hold a candle to Omakase's Dynamite Roll. The sesame seeds & brown sauce were a nice touch though.

Chicken Teriyaki
Loved the sauce, missed the crunch. This would've been perfect if every bite echoed of crunch but sadly, this came off as lazy cooking. The result was a normal, average dish. :(

Beef Bowl
Reminded us of Isshin's version but tastier. At least Kimpura was able to deliver on this one. Served hot & steaming, the aroma alone made me full. Bits of beef, chopped carrots, egg, onions all tossed together in this bowl of good eat. Thumbs up! :)

Oyster
This was my first time to have Oyster served this way... something new to try. Verdict? I could only taste the soy sauce, nothing more nothing less. Pass!

Tofu Steak (Php 175)
Tofu was soft, mushrooms were cooked just right and the pork strips were okay. Notice the trend? No exciting words or sparkling descriptions of any kind. Yup, this is the tone that best describes this dish. Normal, nothing that excites the palate.

The evening was more about the quality time & bonding.
The food sadly was really nothing to write home about.
Serving size was too small & presentation of some dishes left much to be desired.

We left Kimpura with sighs of disappointment.
Sayang. Expected much more than this.

Good thing we decided to have Kaya Toast on the 3rd level. :)
