Toast Box: The Sequel at Greenbelt Makati

It's the battle of the Toastbox-es (is that a word?).

Let's get it on!

Anyway, after posting the Singapore Toastbox, we had the craving for it so at 8:30pm, we decided to go to Greenbelt. I initially thought it was at Greenbelt 3 but I was wrong, so we had to walk all the way to Greenbelt 5. Whew! And to add to that, it was raining really hard. After several minutes, we were on the 3rd floor of Greenbelt 5. Yay!

Toastbox, Greenbelt 5
With the bright lights & cozy-looking interiors, you can't miss it. Toast box really is inviting. As soon as we entered, people began trickling in and pretty soon there weren't any seats left.

Toastbox Counter
The counter area was pretty much the same as the ones in Singapore. The same mountain of butter (as seen on the right side) was also present, as well as the tall teapots they use to pour in their signature coffee/kopi. Loved their lighting fixtures.

The place was cozy although a bit cramped, which made it hard for the servers to go between tables & place the food. The pictures on the walls featured products of both Toast box and Breadtalk.

Since we were kinda hungry that night, we decided to order 1 Set of Kaya toast (comes with 2 egss and Kopi), Kaya toast ala carte, 1/2 Hainanese Chicken with soup & 1 extra Hainanese Rice. Yes, we brought our A game that night! :)

Kaya Toast
The Kaya Toast may look the same, smell the same and even feel the same but the taste? Leaves a lot to be desired. The spread (butter + kaya jam) were not really present, almost bland. Round one goes to Singapore Toastbox.

Kopi
Even the kopi tasted better in Singapore. Here, it was a much darker brown in color and was creamier. It tastes a lot like hot chocolate rather than coffee. Sigh. Point goes to Singapore Toastbox.

Wanting to be different, we decided to try the soft-boiled eggs this time. After carefully cracking the eggs and pouring the mixture into the saucer, I admit I was kinda scared to try it. It looked gooey and sticky. We mixed in the soy sauce and white pepper and dipped... and dipped... and dipped. The soft boiled eggs kept the toast moist & soft but did not overpower the taste of the kaya toast. Verdict? If you want something different or to try eating the kaya toast the traditional way, then you must try this one out. Now I can check this off my bucket list! Haha.

The Hainanese Chicken was tender and cooked through. Even the white meat was soft and easy to chew. Although I prefer Henry's Place Hainanese Chicken, Toast Box's quite alright and affordable too. But of course, the highlight of the dish was the rice. The rice really absorbed the chicken broth and smelled delicious.  Although in my opinion, they could've used less ginger.  The soup was made from chicken broth with leeks and veggies.

And the winner is... (at least for the Kaya toast & Kopi)
