Time Out at Tokyo Cafe SM The Block, Quezon City

To pass time (while waiting for the family to finish their fitting for the upcoming wedding), we found ourselves walking around SM The Block.

With stomachs growling, we began hunting for new places to try. Nothing caught our fancy so we ate at one of our previous food haunts.

Welcome to Tokyo Cafe at SM The Block.

Tokyo Cafe, SM The Block
It was just as we remembered; bright and laid back. One slight problem, their A/C was on the fritz. On a hot & humid afternoon, this was not a good mix.

Katsu-Ju (Php 250)
Wanting to try something new, I had one of their Bento meals. Served in this quaint black lacquered dish pan, I slowly opened the cover.... drumroll please....

Looks good, smells good. Let's see how it tastes. FS verdict? Okay lang. The breading was crunchy but the pork was a bit dry. FS recommendation? Don't forget to mix in the steamed egg; it makes all the difference.

The side salad was a nice addition.

Ordered the dish we had on our previous visit.

This is the Wafu Steak (Php 308) with an order of steamed rice (Php 40)

Couldn't wait to dig into the succulent beef tenderloin cubes & to taste the yummy garlic & oyster sauce. Sadly, what they served was not up to our expectations. The beef was overcooked; it was tough to chew while the sauce was bland. It seems that Tokyo Cafe has trouble in being consistent with their dishes. Sayang. This was one of our favorite dishes pa naman. Tsk tsk.

Tokyo White (Php 280)
The description (creamy white sauce & mozzarella) plus the picture, we had to try their version. Was happy to see the "brown bubbles" :) FS verdict? Not something to come back for. Sorry Tokyo Cafe, it looks better than it tastes.

As we were finishing off the last slices of the pizza; a "surprise guest" graced our presence. Lo and behold, their wall had a creepy crawlie walking around like it owned the place. That was enough to make us lose our appetites.

Not coming back any time soon.
FS Suggestion? Amp up your disinfectants & sprays; they're obviously not working.

Due to the above mentioned cleanliness incident, we're not giving any stars. This is an eat-at-your-own-risk review.
