Filipino Favorites at Wooden Spoon, Power Plant Mall Rockwell Makati

Power Plant Mall in Makati has been our favorite haunt these past few days. It's mainly because MIL & FIL has been bitten by the Wooden Spoon bug.

Wooden Spoon, Power Plant Mall Makati

Yes, it's the restaurant that doesn't accept reservations & has a cash-only payment. FS Advice? Come early. Waiting time to be seated takes 20-30 minutes.

Wansoy Shrimp Nuggets (Php 165)
Yes, you read it right.  My first reaction was "Thanks, but no thanks!" Now? We're glad to  have taken the plunge. This is one of the dishes we keep coming back for. (Well, this & the Crab Bihon but we'll get into that). The wansoy blended beautifully with the shrimps, there was no aftertaste whatsover. The coating had just the right amount of crunch. Definitely one of their must-haves. ;)

Tinapa Fried Rice (Php 155)
Not a good mix. Even eating it by itself to give the flavors a chance to shine was to no avail. Sadly, this was a miss for me. Plain rice would've been a better choice.

Tuna Belly with Ensaladang Manga
Honestly, MIL just orders this for the Ensaladang Manga. The Tuna Belly was a bit overcooked; tough to cut & chew.

Stuffed Pechay (Php 175)
From Tinapa Rice to Pechay stuffed with Tinapa.... yup, it's a Tinapa overload kind of night. FS Verdict? The spicy coconut sauce was the highlight of the dish. I was not able to taste any other flavors aside from the smoked fish. A unique dish that's worth trying out once... wherein once is already one too many.

Wooden Spoon Crispy Chicken (Php 212)
Having the restaurant's name on it's back, I was surprised to learn that this was just a so-so dish. This was Wooden Spoon's version of Korean chicken. This dish left us disappointed. :(

Squid with Chili & Mushroom (Pjp 249)
That was exactly what this is, squid & mushroom in spicy sauce. The seafood was cooked okay, none of the slimy texture or taste.

Sago Cake
Dessert time! Now this was more up my alley. ;) Sweet does not even begin to touch it. I was licking the spoon (see what I did there?) just to get the last drops of arnibal sauce. This gets 2 thumbs up from me. ;p
