Late Lunch at Mesa Filipino Moderne, Tomas Morato, Quezon City Philippines

** Late December post **

This was actually my post-birthday treat for my family. They were running late so we had a bit of time to ourselves.

Excuse the flash, it was really scorching hot that day.
Mesa Filipino Moderne, Tomas Morato, Quezon City, Philippines

Sisig in a Pouch (Php 195)
This dish made me do a double take; it's reminiscent of Wok Inn's Sipa. I was actually looking for the Sipa sauce but in Mesa's version, they use suka (vinegar). The crunchy wrapper was a crowd favorite while the sisig inside was a different matter altogether. It was a bit soggy & lacked flavor.

Baked Scallops with Garlic Butter (Php 225)
Serving size easily feeds 3-4 people. Baked just right, they weren't stingy with the garlic butter too.

Baby Squid in Olive Oil (Php 310)
This came highly recommended by our server. Honestly, I was hesitant to order this one since it didn't offer anything exciting to the taste buds... but it was a good thing we did. This was absolute YUM! I was surprised that the only seasoning used were garlic & laurel. The squid wasn't rubbery (which is always a big plus) and it easily absorbed the flavors. Nice one Mesa

Laing 2-way (Php 150)
Spicy
Original
For those unfamiliar with laing; it's taro leaves mixed with pork, shrimp paste & coconut cream topped with adobo flakes. Mesa offers it in 2-way (parang Peking Duck lang), spicy & original. I liked the original better; you can taste the coconut cream in every bite. I give this a YUM times two ;9

Kare Kare Beef & Tripe (Php 305)
Mesa's version lacked the peanut flavor that I love about Kare Kare. Sigh. This was a pass for me.

Bam-I (Php 175)
Looked like Pancit Canton, tasted like one.

Crispy Boneless Pata (Php 505)
As promised, this was crunchy and boneless. FS Verdict? It tasted a bit plain even after spoonfuls of sauce. Quite ordinary.

Are we coming back? Most probably.
