Going Loco Over Taco at El Chupacabra, Polaris Street, Makati City, Philippines

While waiting for our coffee date with our friends, we decided to try out the taco haven hidden in one of the side streets of Makati.

Welcome to El Chupacabra
First impression? All your senses will definitely hit overdrive once you step in. They weren't lying about the "street tacos" part. Their al fresco area is literally on the street; passing cars were just inches away from your reach. But what was more surprising was the fact that even with all that, it was a full house. People were happily chugging down beers & tacos with not a care in the world. Now that was truly something else.

Ohh and have I mentioned that they do the grilling out on the street???

We were one of the lucky ones to get a place inside; just be ready to kiss elbows with strangers since the inside was definitely as crowded as the outside. And non-stop bumping from the servers while maneuvering in between tables were a frequent sight & felt. Sigh.

After looking at their menu, we decided to try 3 of their tacos & 1 stick each of the barbecue.

Here's a table shot of our food. Excuse the bad picture, it was really hard to find good lighting inside.

Carne Asada (Php 105)
This is basically a Sisig Taco. Looks simple enough but the flavor.... it got our taste buds tingling for more. Food-Stars Recommendation? It's tasty enough on its own but once you squeeze in the calamansi, the citrus kick definitely highlights the meat more. Spoon in the garlic sauce that comes with it too. Food-Stars Verdict? Yummy but more meat would make us love it a lot more.

Baja California Fish Tacos (Php 135)
This is 2 pieces of white fish fillet fried to a crisp on the outside but still soft & flaky on the inside. Food-Stars Verdict? Cooked just right but lacks seasoning. It helps to load up on the calamansi & sauce.

Camarones A La Diabla (Php 155)
One of their more expensive tacos, we were expecting more spice and shrimps. The lettuce & onions were too much that it overwhelmed the taste of the camarones. Food-Stars Verdict? Nothing special.

Super Pork Bbq Sticks (Php 50/each)
This took longer coming out of the kitchen. The waiter promised double the size of the regular order; looked like it did. There was charring on the sides which I liked. Food-Stars Verdict? This was actually good. Tasty & juicy in every bite.

Overall, our trip to Polaris Street Makati yielded a new go-to-place for our taco cravings.
