A Crab-tastic Food Trip at No Signboard Geylang

Late post! Been neglecting to put this up. Guess it's better late than never! Here goes...

On our first night in Singapore, we had our dinner at one of the hot spot tourist foodie place called No Singboard in Geylang. Seriously, the restaurant's name is No Signboard because it literally has no signboard.

No Signboard, Geylang Singapore

Don't let the place fool you, we had to reserve days before just to avoid the dinner rush (yes, we had to call long distance).  Once we got inside, people started coming in & before you know it, it was a full house. You can choose to eat indoors (with aircon) or outdoors (open air).  Inside, you'll see the newspaper articles about the restaurant and their best-seller, chili crabs.

On to the food!

Claypot Beancurd

First up, we had the Claypot Beancurd. This was basically a dish with tofu, mushrooms & veggies served in a pot. The tofu was tasty but still, nothing special.  You can get it here locally in the Philippines much cheaper & better tasting. The sauce tasted okay, just right to complete an otherwise ordinary dish.
Hong Kong Style Noodles

We also had the Hong Kong Noodles. A somewhat disappointing dish, the noodles were dry & bland. Nothing to write home about. As you can see in the picture, it doesn't look that appetizing as well.  The noodle were quite pale, mushrooms & veggies were just mixed in like an afterthought. Not recommended.
Crispy Cereal Prawns
Next on the menu was the Crispy Cereal Prawns. Had the same dish at Tao Yuan & this was a close second. The prawns were kinda small but were tender & freshly cooked. The crunchiness of the cereal complimented the softness of the prawns.

On to their best selling dish, crab. We wanted to know what all the fuss was about so we had to try 2 of their crab dishes the Chili Crab (up) and the White Pepper Crab (below).

I liked the Chili Crab better. It was as spicy as it looks and the flavors were vibrant, every spoonful was an adventure of spices that rolls off the tongue. But the crab itself.. ummm not so much. It didn't really absorb the flavor since it is shelled when cooked but it was fresh & soft. My recommendation? Ask for a crab cracker & start cracking!

The White Pepper Crab was by recommendation for it's spiciness, even hotter than the Chili Crab in fact. This dish worked even without the sauce because the flavors were absorbed in the crab meat.  But this dish left something to be desired, aside from being spicy it didn't exactly give anything else.

Spareribs
Since we were meat lovers, our tummies were craving for meat so we opted to try out the Spareribs dish. Once the server placed the plate in front of us, my initial thought was "it looked more in the picture".  The serving was better suited for an appetizer. As you can see, they didn't even take out the foil & let's not talk about the aesthetics. Sheesh! Oh and for the taste? Forgettable.

Now the best part was when we ordered the 24 pcs of Man Tao (Chinese Steamed Buns).  These looks like small rolls of white bread but try dipping it in the Chili Crab sauce... Yummy!

For drinks wanting to be adventurous, I decided to try their Home Made Barley
Not gonna try that anytime soon.
