On the Sea of Disaster at Prestige Cruises, Manila Bay

** Another left over post from last month.
We thought long and hard if we were going to post this one.
Here goes.... **

On the same day of the Pacquiao-Marquez fight, we were invited to a cruise dinner by the Bay. Running late, we were zooming in and out of lanes. We got there with lots of time to spare. Phew.

Outside the Cruise Ship
Prestige Cruise, Manila Bay
Since we arrived earlier than expected, we got the chance to explore and look around. The Upper Deck was overcrowded, with almost no spaces in between the tables and chairs. Also, this was where the DJ was set up with the singer.

Lower Deck
We soon went down to the Lower Deck and began looking for a place to sit and wait. The monobloc tables & chairs were placed by the railings. Yup, for a name like Prestige Cruises, we expected something elegant or at least presentable. Sorry but, no dice.

By 8pm, the crew was preparing to set sail. It was suggested that we sit the nearest to the buffet table. Here's the view we got while waiting for the food.

The View
We soon got bored of the view. There was actually nothing that interesting to see. So with the wind blowing in our faces, we started asking the waiters what time they would begin serving. Music soon came blaring from the speakers, complete with inane dialogue from the DJ and singer. Alas, this was slowly becoming a bad night.

We were hoping that the food would at least make up for everything... Sadly, it didn't.

Salad with Vinaigrette Dressing
Plain Rice

They served soup, salad, rice and 3 viands. I didn't even bother knowing the names of the dishes. The appearance alone was enough to demolish our building appetite. His exact words were, "I know we should not judge a book by its cover but unfortunately, in this case it tasted as bad as it looked!"   Can you say "FALSE ADVERTISING?"

Plate of UGH!
The waiters are the ones who portions your food on the plate, which for the first time ever was a good thing... since you only had a few spoonfuls of icky food to deal with. Another bummer? The soft drinks in can cost P75 each. Yup, it's even pricier than the ones sold in hotels. Greedy much?

Dessert

The only dish we enjoyed? Dessert and that's because this is store bought. They don't make the brownies, these were from a branded chocolate stall found in malls (Brownies from SM).

Sadly, while we were already biting into the brownies, the line to the buffet was still long. I wasn't even sure if the food was enough to feed all the people on board. Tsk tsk. It was like a Catch22 kind of thing. BOO if you don't get to eat, BOO if you do.

Verdict? If this wasn't for a celebration, we would've been complaining the whole trip. But we knew that this was a special occasion so we kept our mouths shut and silently wished for it to end soon.

Once we docked, the passengers acted as if the ship was sinking. Everyone was piling up by the exit, we all couldn't wait to get off the ship and look for another place to eat. Thus, this was the same night we knew of Harborview Square.

ATTENTION: PRESTIGE CRUISE, if you're offering deals at discounted prices, make sure that you give the same quality of food and service as the regular priced ones. It is FALSE ADVERTISING if you don't offer the same overall experience. We don't get to have any savings IF with the lower price, we get low quality food and service. That's called CHEATING!
