Let's try something new!
True to our name, FoodStars Plus (+) , we will now be posting something other than food. After a stressful afternoon of walking & talking, we wanted to get some foot relief. Upon suggestion of one of our friends, we headed to Bare Foot Spa.

Bare Foot Day Spa, D. Tuazon Quezon City |
First impression? Not very impressive. With the dark entrance and darker surroundings, the place actually gave me the creeps. The thought "Parang hindi spa" came into mind. But of course, I reserved judgments 'til later.
|
Zen (?) |
It was much brighter inside. You walk up to the counter and browse through their services. The quaint zen-like structure in front made the place more spa-like.
|
Couch with Pillows |
They have a waiting area where you can sit and wait for your name to be called. Suggestion? Make reservations ahead of time especially if you're going as a group.
The first time we went here, we decided to try their foot reflex. It has been said that they don't use any tools, just plain fingers massaging your pressure points. Here's where they will be massaging your feet.
|
Couch with Foot stools |
On the opposite side are two armchairs for foot reflex as well. I'm not that keen on the open-space thing. There are no separators/ dividers for people who would want privacy from strangers who are also having their feet massaged. The area is covered by a big curtain and held closed by clothespins. I'm not that picky really, but the sound from the counter and guests travels easily thus eliminating the main reason of getting a massage, to relax. Sigh.

Light fixture |
With dim lights, they will sit on the foot stools and proceed to massage your feet. Get ready for a night of torture.. and that's no exaggeration. They will begin steamrolling your foot with what they call "foot reflex" and by the end of the session, you'll feel tired instead of refreshed. You'll feel battered and bruised. I had to constant steel myself and grit my teeth in pain because once you say that you want a milder pressure, they'll stop massaging your feet and just give you light-feathery touches which is much worse.
That's our first visit. And I couldn't believe it myself but we decided to give this spa another chance, we went to have full body massages. Yup, we went back for another beating.

Therapists |
First complaint? The slippers they let you use have remnants of sticky oil. Don't they wash them? This was a sign of bad things to come.
Second, they don't offer feet washes. So with all the dirt and grime of the outside world, they will tell you to go upstairs and change.
Third, you'll be massaged feet first, then back, arm, head, hair... with the oily slipper and grime on their fingers. Can you say YUCK?
Fourth, they only use ONE towel to wipe off the oil from your foot, your back, your arms and your head. Are you still feeling refreshed?
So with more than 3 strikes, Barefoot Day Spa you're OUT of our to-go list.
P.S. After the body massage, I could feel pain from my lower back for the next 3 days.
I'm thinking you know the answer to the question, "Are we coming back?"
