Heating Things Up at You Jie Xiao Chao, Makati

One of the hidden Chinese restaurants in Makati now comes to light.

Nestled in a residential area in Camia Street with no signboard whatsoever, this restaurant is unnoticeable to the untrained eye. It seems like this is a food spot wherein people flock for good food and definitely not for the ambiance.

White simplicity
The interior was too simple, nothing in it suggests that this is a restaurant other than the wooden tables and chairs.  With the plain walls and dull atmosphere, the food better taste really good.

A word of caution, almost all dishes here are spicy. Definitely not for the fainthearted.

Gong Bao Chicken
We ordered the Gong Bao Chicken, more commonly known as Kung Pao Chicken.  This was a stir fried chicken dish cut into bite-sized chunks and mixed with peanuts, leeks and chilies. The meat was tender and soft, cooked just right. Serving was good for 2-3 people.
Hotness level: 2

Fried Lamb

Dining with non-beef eaters, we opted to order their lamb instead. This was stir-fried with garlic and leeks. Surprisingly, the lamb was cooked nicely, tender and flavorful. A bit oily though.

Hotness level: 1

Steamed Fish Head
I was kinda hesitant at first, seeing the picture on the menu didn't ease my apprehension about this dish. But it came highly recommended so we definitely had to try it out. Good thing too coz this was actually the saving grace for this review. Two portions of the fish head is laden with red pepper, leeks and lots of chilies. Every mouthful was a chili explosion in my mouth. The fish meat was soft and flavorful. Thumbs up for the sauce alone.
Hotness level: 3.5

Unlimited Rice
Going with the food trend nowadays, they also offered automatic unlimited rice for their patrons. This was a plus since people tend to eat more rice because of the spices they use. For drinks, best you order the canned ones.

Overall an okay experience.

One complaint though, it did not help that their A/C were in low setting.

Spicy hot food + Humid & Bad ventilation = never a good thing.
Will I come back? Definitely, but will be taking the food to-go instead :)
