Pinoy Pizza at Sandy's, Makati

We were scared to try out a new online coupon site but when we saw this deal, being pizza lovers we had to try this out.

Trivia: This pizza place is apparently owned by Gabby Concepcion's sister.

Hidden in the outskirts of Makati, we welcome you to Sandy's Pizza!

Order Counter
As you enter, you'll notice that the place is a bit cramped. The order counter is just a few steps away from the door. It was a bit hot & stuffy but the staff immediately opened the a/c.

Wall photos
The only decor you'll see are the pictures of celebrities posted on the walls. Other than that, the restaurant strictly employs a minimalist look. The empty wooden tables and chairs at 6pm was a disappointing sight.

Bathroom Break
A well-lit hallway leads you to the restroom. This is a definite plus for me. Other bigger restaurants don't even have their own restrooms. Even with its small space, they still managed to  place their customer's convenience first on their list.

Menu
They offer several "unique" pizza flavors. From laing to garlic tuyo in olive oil, Sandy's pizza incorporates traditional Filipino favorites. Thumbs up for creativity and embodying a patriotic vibe.  :)

By the time we placed our orders, people started trickling in and pretty soon it was a full house! (But having 5-6 tables good for 4 people each, it doesn't really take that long to).

"The Missing Slice"
We couldn't wait to try it their "wheat" pizza. The voucher included a 14" pizza and 1 order of large pasta.  For the pizza, we tried out 4 different flavors. We pretty much kept it low-key, nothing too extreme.

(1) - White Pizza : You can taste the cheese but nothing special. It did not give off the cheesy flavors I was looking for. Sigh.

(2) - Bacon and Pineapple : Our pizza staple. There's nothing really special about it, it's name says it all. It's exactly a bacon and pineapple pizza.

(3) - Filipino Adobo with Kesong Puti : Being an adobo lover, I couldn't pass up on this one. Was expecting the saltiness of the adobo to complement the milkiness of the white cheese... it didn't quite make it for me.   None of the flavors popped up.

(4) - Garlic chorizo and cheese : Same as the adobo, was looking for that flavorful kick from the chorizo. Disappointing.

Tuna Arrabiata
For the large pasta, we ordered the Tuna Arrabiata. Was surprised to see that even for dine-in patrons,  they serve this in microwavable containers. Is it really that big of a hassle to plate and present their pastas beautifully? Just wondering.  The red sauce was spicy which was a deviation from the usual sweet tomato sauces.  The noodles were cooked al dente and the serving is good for 2-3 people. Verdict? It's only redeeming quality is that it's spicy.

Carbonara with Mushrooms
We also had their Carbonara with Mushrooms. First impression, it looked creamy and yummy. As for the taste, it was nothing special.  Also, the noodle to mushroom ratio had a pretty big discrepancy.  The Tuna Arriabata was more promising.

Tangy Buffalo Chicken Wings
Seeing this on the menu, we couldn't pass this up.  Once they set the plate down (finally they used a real plate), saw that the wings were too small definitely not the usual buffalo chicken size. The bright orange sauce was true to its name, it was tangy and spicy. Ate it without the dip. Overall, an okay dish.  Serving is good for 2 people.

Are the dishes worth paying the whole price for?
Sadly without the voucher, I won't be coming back anytime soon.
