Noodle-licious Dinner at Kanzhu, San Juan

We were supposed to be in QC by 7pm but EDSA was so clogged that by 7:30, we were still stuck in traffic. Hungry and with patience wearing thin, we drove to Greenhills for dinner. I've always wanted to try this place out. It seemed now was a good time as any.

Kanzhu, San Juan

I couldn't help but notice the cute caricature of the chef. With the be-dimpled smile and rosy red cheeks, this was a plus in the cuteness factor. Now how would their food fare?

Open kitchen

As you enter the bright expanse, the first thing you'll notice is the big kitchen window. We decided then that we had to order the noodles just to see the hand-pulling in action.

Hand Pulled Noodles in action!

It was a series of twists & turns of freshly made noodles. Couldn't wait to see how it tastes! :)

With plate a-waitin'

The restaurant kinda reminds me of Kimpo in QC with almost the same theme and atmosphere. Main difference were the food prices & a much roomier feel of the place.

Peanut lovin'

While waiting for your orders to arrive, they will serve you these sesame-coated sweet peanuts to snack on. This was too yummy. Had 3 refills of this during the entire meal.

Hot Soup

They also serve you complimentary steaming hot bowls of soup. Food was served after having just 4 spoonfuls of this. Kudos to the fast service.

A1! Braised Beef Dry Noodles (Php 150)

Yup, that's exactly how the name was written on the menu, down to the exclamation point. :) Now for the ultimate test... And yes, you can definitely taste the difference of the hand-pulled noodles compared to regular ones. This was chewy & thicker in texture. The braised beef pieces were juicy and soft. Once you mix the noodles in the broth, it absorbs all the beef-y goodness. This was yum in every bite. Now I know why they call it A1! :)

Chinese Sausage Fried Rice (Php 160) + 1 cup plain rice (Php 30)

We found the fried rice too salty for our liking so we asked the chef to add one cup of plain rice in the mix. The greens were fresh and slightly crunchy. The Chinese sausage was a bit few in number. This was an okay dish, nothing special really.

Wok Fried Fragrant Chicken (Php 200)

Saw the picture on the menu and ordered one.  The chicken bits were juicy and coated really well while the eggplant was soft to chew. The chili added the spicy flavor that completed the whole dish. Will definitely back for more. One thing though, the dish had more eggplants than chicken. :(

Fried Special Lamb Dumplings (Php 120)

The thing that sold it for us was the lamb part. Each order is 7pcs of dumpling with your choice of either steamed or fried. First impression? Looked like ordinary fried dumplings. As I bit into it, I was waiting for the lamb filling but alas, it was after several bites that you get to taste the somewhat non-existent lamb flavor. Verdict? A definite pass for me.

So our San Juan stopover was a somewhat success. Was able to try out a new place & enjoyed most of the food. Kanzhu, we're happy to announce that you're now on our go-to food list! :)
