After a Sunday lunch at Tajimaya (one of our favorites), we walked around the SM MOA complex. Due to the scorching heat, we were soon thirsty. Milk tea seemed the best way to beat the heat. We already tried Chatime so we were left with Gong Cha to try out.
Bright and inviting, this was a good start. We had to wait for a few minutes because of the long line. Let's see if the drinks were worth it.

Menu Board |
Just like in other tea places, their drink selection was posted on a menu board. With lots of drink to choose from, we settled with our go-to flavors of Taro & Caramel Milk Teas.

While waiting for our drinks, I was able to look around the place. Clean & clutter-free. Thumbs up!

Loved the cup design. Hubby had the Taro Milk Tea (with pearls). Verdict? Tasted very similar to Quickly's version which costs significantly less. Having a higher price tag, I expected something special from Gong Cha but sadly there was none. How disappointing.
Caramel Milk Tea with 100% sweetness was a sugar high waiting to happen. I know, it's too sweet but that's how I like my drinks. So it came as a surprise that for the first time ever, Gong Cha's version made me rethink my sugar tolerance level. This was too sweet to the point that the caramel began to taste funny... while the aftertaste was no fun. I'm reserving judgement for this particular drink for now. Will try a lower sugar level next time.
In conclusion, I don't think the drinks we had was enough to make us into Gong Cha fans. Maybe we'll try their other drinks in the future but as for now, it seems that Serenitea is still high up on our list. Nice try though.
