Weekend Bonding at Summer Palace, Edsa Shangrila Hotel

One lazy Sunday morning, craving for something different (from the usual mall restaurants & take outs), we headed down to Edsa Shangri-la to our usual dim sum hotspot for lunch.
Summer Palace, Edsa Shangri-la Hotel
As you enter, you'll feel like you're transported to someplace far away from the noisy hustle & bustle of the city life... well almost.
Lights!

With elaborate fixtures such as their hanging lights, you know you're definitely in for a royal treat.  FS Tip: Ask to be seated in the "inner circle" to completely enjoy the Summer Palace experience :)

As the silver cart slowly made it's way to our table, the wonderful aroma of dim sum wafted in the air. What were the glorious wonders hidden under those wooden lids?

Siomai

Any dim sum afficionado will tell you "it ain't complete without the siomai".  Unlike in other restaurants, Summer Palace uses whole shrimps in every siomai. Makes you feel kinda special, doesn't it? It's served hot & juicy, just the way we like it. 3 more orders please! :)

Spareribs
Next up, still from the dim sum cart, is the Spareribs. Asked for the ones with less the "fat". The meat was soft and cooked nicely although not that tasty. It didn't exactly excite any of my taste buds, had to constantly dip it in the soy sauce for flavor.

Chicken Feet

Okay, I've developed this love for Chicken Feet so I didn't hesitate to order it here. With the bright red color of the chicken... SOLD! But I'm being biased here. It was not spicy but the sauce was yummy. The chicken was also well-coated. Overall, an okay dish.

Hakaw
Not really a fan of Hakaw, I find it too simple a dish. In their version, it's a whole shrimp wrapped in thin wanton wrapper. Verdict? For a high-class restaurant with high quality ingredients, they could've developed this dish into something much much more.

Fried Beancurd with Shrimps & Black Vinegar
As you can see, Summer Palace is not stingy with their shrimps. In this particular dish, the shrimp portion again is more than usual. Aside from it's crunchy texture.... well that's all I can say about this dish. It lacked that oomph factor. Nothing special.
Shrimp Rice Roll
Yup, it's another shrimp dish. I was getting a bit of shrimp overload by this time. Haha. Good thing I'm not allergic to seafood. Verdict? This was not something to write home about. Good but not great.

Yang Chow Fried Rice
Looks appetizing enough but again looks can be deceiving. It did not manage to pack a punch, no lingering flavors, no wow factor. Even with all the beautiful colors & fresh ingredients, it was just... normal.

Sweet & Sour Pork
Served on a cute white plate, this was one of the reasons we keep coming back. Theirs was crunchy and really tasty the last time we went. We didn't hesitate to order this one again. Sadly, it was no longer crunchy and the pork was a bit overcooked. It was a bit tough and the sauce was different. Kinda forgettable actually. Sigh. Huge disappointment.

Radish Cake
And last but not the least, we ordered the Radish Cake.  Good thing too because as far as I'm concerned, this was totally worth. Absolutely ♥ this one. An acquired taste though, not everyone on the table was in agreement.

Was Summer Palace able to provide food fit for kings & queens? Sadly, they didn't.
For the amount of money they charge for food, we should be shouting to the high heavens about this place but alas, it was totally lacking.

HIGH PRICES + MEDIOCRE DISHES = UNHAPPY PATRONS

Ohh.. they also forgot to inform us that one of the dishes we ordered was already out of stock. It's when we tried to cancel it (for taking too long) that they told us. Tsk tsk.
