Birthday Bash at Chili's Greenhills

To celebrate a friend's birthday, we were invited to have dinner at Chili's Greenhills last Saturday (October 1, 2011).

Chili's Greenhills
With it's big chili logo and bright red light, you can't miss it.
Birthday dinner with friends + alcohol = a hell of a good time! :)

Welcome sign
Just in case you forgot where you are, there is a large blackboard that welcomes you to Chili's. Their friendly and attentive staff is right there to greet you and help you to your table. It was 8:30pm on a Saturday night and business was booming!

Booths
You'll be given a choice of smoking or non-smoking. The sections are subdivided by doors and low counters. The tables are decorated with blue mosaic-type carvings while the heavy chairs are painted dark brown. The wall decors have the same theme, mostly incorporating the Chili's vibe.

Bottomless Tostada Chips with Homemade Salsa
This is the ultimate pika-pika. Aside from its bottomless status (yup, it's a never-ending chips refill), it's the crunch that you'll be coming back for. Every bite echoes in the mouth and the salsa... excites the taste buds. And did I mention that these chips are cut paper-thin for easier eating? More please :)

Wings Over Buffalo
First impression? The serving's too small even for an appetizer. It was not at all spicy, bordering on bland already. Not really one of their bests.

Calamari
"Sprinkled with Parmesan Cheese" was an understatement. The parma cheese was placed in as an afterthought, it was not evenly placed. The Upside? At least the squid was crunchy and not the instant kind. The dip helped to up the ante of the dish but still, not something to rave about. Another good thing was the serving was good for 3-4 people. For an appetizer, that is quite a feat.

Mesquite Chicken Salad
Was never really a fan of salads. You pay for a few wilted veggies, salad dressing and croutons, cheese, cucumbers, and whatever else they mix in that strikes their fancy. With that on my mind, I knew it would be hard to keep this objective. Now for the review. The vibrant colors of the garnish they used was truly a feast for the eyes. The grilled chicken breast were juicy and tender. The lettuce were definitely fresh. Major gripe? The ranch dressing lacked flavor. Verdict? A fresh and overloaded entree but did not make a believer out of me. Nice try though.

Mini burgers
Big Mouth Burger Bites sounded delicious and thankfully, the dish did not disappoint. The beef was juicy and cooked perfectly with the middle part still pink, just the way I like it. The bacon was a perfect complement to the beef. Add the cheese... this was truly mouth-watering. The onion rings were crunchy. Passed on the ranch dressing. A gold star for this one! :)

Fajita Trio
This wrap-it-yourself dish was a nice surprise.  The chicken/steak/shrimp was served in a frying pan. Cute. The tortilla wrappers came with its own container. And the cheese, tomatoes & cream were delicately nestled on top of the shredded veggies. Presentation-wise, this garnered a thumbs up from me. The aroma from the pan was heavenly.

We now pause for a tortilla eating lesson.
Step one: Get your tortilla wrapper (careful, it's hot)
Step Two: Spoon on your steak/chicken/shrimp.
Step Three: Top the meats & seafood with the cheese, veggies, tomatoes & cream.
Step Four: Fold the tortilla wrapper.
Step Five: Place in mouth and chew.

Recommendation? Eat it while it's hot. Verdict? Nothing special actually. Enjoyed the wrapping part more than the dish itself, right Ats? :)

And from FoodStars we say, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY ATHENA!" :)
